The exhibition …you say [pause] is based on an archive of 640 discarded sound files, that I have collected from computer trash bin folders in 2016-2017. More exactly from computers located in room 103, 108, 110 and 112 at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark. I was curious to explore what was left in the digital corners; a space for impermanence in the margins of the screen, and understand what it could tell us on what we consider worth remembering.

In the archive, one listens to sketches, silences and bad takes; a vocal warm up, an undefinable hum, a conversation overheard by the microphone; sound that is before, after or beside. If one were to make an analogy, I like to think of these sounds as being shavings cut from a linocut; fragments spread around a table, not showing the image itself but rather what was removed from it.

The exhibition at Hordaland Kunstsenter will consist of a sound installation in the gallery, a book with archival notes and transcription, and a temporary radio station will be established in the café transmitting a comprehensive radio programme throughout the exhibition period.

William Kudahl (former composer, nearly writer) works in a field between text and sound. He has published audio books, sound postcards and radio works that often explores hierarchies between what we consider being valuable.

The MA Week is a collaboration between Hordaland Kunstsenter and the Art Academy – Department of Contemporary Art, UiB. Through an open call, MFA students are invited to submit proposals for an exhibition to be realised at Hordaland kunstsenter.

Hordaland Art Centre based in Bergen, Norway was established 1976 as the first artist run art centre in Norway. Its activities are based around the exhibition programme with equal emphasis on seminars, presentations and dialogue. Since 1987 Hordaland Art Centre has hosted a Nordic residency programme, from 2008 also open to international artists, curators, writers and other art professionals.
